Thoughts from the CEO

December 2007

LCRA NAMES A NEW GENERAL MANAGER
After eight years of service as the General Manager of the Lower Colorado River Authority, Joe Beal announced his retirement earlier this year. The LCRA Board has now named Thomas G. Mason as the new General Manager, effective immediately. Mr. Mason has served as LCRA’s general counsel since 1999 and has served on the LCRA’s legal staff for 20 years. We are pleased with the LCRA Board’s action in appointing Mr. Mason as the next General Manager and wish him the best of luck in his new position. As you all know, GVEC and LCRA have some tough business decisions to make in the near future and we look forward to a successful result under Mr. Mason’s direction.

HOLIDAY SPIRIT
As we come out of the Thanksgiving holiday and prepare for the Christmas season, I am reminded of the multitude of blessings that surround me. I am so thankful for my family and friends and the great people I get to work with each and every day. I am grateful that we have people in our country who are willing to risk their own lives to ensure we have a safe place to live and who protect the freedoms we enjoy. As we look around our communities, our nation and the world, we can quickly find people who are suffering and who are in need. The GVEC employee family is now in the process of holding its Second Annual Holiday Food Drive. This has been an employee-initiated effort and I am so proud of them for feeling moved to help those who are less fortunate. Each of our offices are now accepting canned food through the 18th of December. After the collection period is over, our employees will load up the donated items and distribute them to area food banks. Last year’s food drive was a huge success with our employees bringing in over 4,500 canned food items! As I mentioned, this project is underway again this year and we’d love to have you participate if you wish to do so.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR
