The GVEC Way of Business: Ownership, Service, Democracy

When you get electric service from GVEC, you aren’t just a customer; you’re also member-owner of a non-profit cooperative dedicated to empowering and improving the communities and lives of those we serve. We take great pride in being run as a member-owned democracy where everyone gets a voice—a vote.

Being run as a democracy means GVEC members can have a say in how their Cooperative is run. We welcome and encourage this input from our members; we not only want to hear your voices, we need to hear them, and we never stop listening. Our Annual Meeting is one of the most important events where you can make your voice heard.

Neighbor Helping Neighbor

GVEC was founded on principles of participation and investment in community, and we’ve stayed true to them throughout our eight decades of service. In 1938, when a group of pioneering farmers from around the Guadalupe Valley worked together to create the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative, involvement from everyone in the community was essential. With a little input and help, our young Cooperative was able to grow.

As we’ve succeeded over the decades, the areas we serve have grown and succeeded, too. We are both humbled and pleased to have contributed to this prosperity, but it all started with community participation. When everyone participates, we all reap the rewards. This is why the Annual Meeting matters and why we welcome and value the attendance and participation of every GVEC member.

The 2019 GVEC Annual Meeting: Carving Our Own Path

The theme of the 2019 Annual Meeting is “Carving Our Own Path.” This theme perfectly encapsulates the Cooperative’s approach to service. Every decision we make is done with the best interests of those we serve in mind. Often, identifying and investing in the best product or service for our members means thinking beyond what’s trendy or expected, and striving to think differently. This is an important part of our commitment to making a difference in the lives of those we serve—that’s what “Carving Our Own Path” is about.

At GVEC, We Serve a Bigger Purpose

Another important part of carving our own path is remaining mindful of what really matters to us as a cooperative: people, community. From our general manager to our facilities staff to our customer service representatives, executives and everyone in between, we’re all bound in service toward a purpose that’s bigger than ourselves; to improve the lives the people we serve in the Guadalupe Valley.

Thinking Bigger, Staying Ahead of the Curve at the 2019 GVEC Annual Meeting

At GVEC, staying ahead of the curve and thinking bigger means remaining innovative and always using current successes as a stepping stone into the future. To that end, we operate with a philosophy that taking care of our finances is a critical part of caring for our communities. Without prudent financial management, past, current or future successes wouldn’t be possible. That’s why the presentation of our financials is one of the most important highlights of our Annual Meeting, Annual Video and Annual Report.
