Due to the rise of COVID-19 cases within our service territory, GVEC has temporarily closed all customer service lobbies, but is accepting in-office visits by appointment. Drive thru lanes will remain open for our customers' convenience at this time. GVEC Enters Groundbreaking Partnership with the City of Gonzales Electric System

In July, GVEC finalized a service agreement for the Cooperative to assume day-to-day electric operations and maintenance activities for the City of Gonzales. This contract, which went into effect October 1, covers customers in the Cities of Gonzales and Harwood and represents a milestone for GVEC. This is the first time the Cooperative has entered into an agreement to serve the comprehensive needs of a municipally owned electric utility.

How Does this New Service Agreement Work?

Under the terms of this new agreement, the city will retain ownership of the Gonzales electric distribution system and all related assets. Using our expertise in electric delivery and service, GVEC will provide general operation and maintenance of that system, serving customers as well as City-owned public spaces. The agreement includes installation and repair of electrical equipment, lines, meters, street and parking lot lighting, in addition to preventative maintenance tree trimming in defined areas, and call answering and dispatching services.

The agreement does not include services such as meter reading and billing, among other administrative functions. It’s important for Gonzales electric customers to know that this agreement will have minimal impact on their experience of using or purchasing Gonzales electric. This is because billing and associated administrative services will remain with the City.

2018 National Co-op Month & GVEC’s Continuing Commitment to ‘Seeing the Future’

GVEC is honored to be chosen by the City of Gonzales to fulfill the important role of operating and maintaining a strong electric distribution system for their customers. As we celebrate National Co-op Month in October, this agreement is one more reminder of GVEC’s own commitment to “seeing the future.” We constantly seek new opportunities to diversify and carve new paths that deliver value for our customers and neighbors. We view a project like this not only as a win-win for everyone involved, but also a strong indicator of what makes the cooperative way of business both exceptional and important.

Thank You to Mayor Kacir & the City of Gonzales Electric System

I would like to thank Mayor Connie Kacir and the City of Gonzales for their support. GVEC is both prepared and excited to get to work on their behalf. We are committed to carrying out all our contractual responsibilities to Gonzales customers in the same highly professional and successful manner to which our members have become accustomed. This is a mutually beneficial working relationship for both the City of Gonzales and GVEC and we appreciate the opportunity to serve their needs.
