GVEC Gives Back Coming Sept. 22

GVEC will hold its first GVEC Gives Back Event Saturday, Sept. 22, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Max Starcke Park in the Patricia Irvine-King Pavilion. The address is 650 River Drive West, Seguin.

A GVEC Community Event

At GVEC, we believe that being an active, visible part of the community is vital to building strong relationships with those we serve. We strive to be out there, in our service areas, part of the action, rolling up our sleeves and working hard to help improve the lives of our members and customers. We want everyone to have fun along the way, too. That’s why we’re holding our first GVEC Gives Back event.

Who Benefits from GVEC Gives Back?

This GVEC community event will benefit the Guadalupe County Children’s Advocacy Center and Norma’s House Children’s Advocacy Center.

GVEC Gives Back Times, Pricing & Registration Details

GVEC Gives Back features a 5K Color Fun Run/Walk, which starts at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22. Until Aug. 1, the cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children 17 and under. Starting Aug. 2, the cost is $25 for adults and $20 for children 17 and under. Participants can also register on event day, 8 to 9 a.m. However, those registering online through Sept. 1 receive a free t-shirt, available with the event packet starting at 8 a.m. on race day.

According to GVEC Community Relations Representative Kasie Tankersley, the color fun run course is situated alongside the Guadalupe River, making for a breathtaking view.

Color Fun Run Lunch

Upon conclusion of the color fun run at 11 a.m., lunch will be served until 2 p.m. Attendees need not participate in the run/walk to enjoy lunch, which costs an additional $10 per ticket and includes BBQ chicken with giblet rice and green beans.

Lunch tickets go on sale Aug. 1 at local GVEC offices and cost $10 regardless of purchase date or color-run participation. Ticket quantities, however, are limited.

A Day of Musical Entertainment

This GVEC special event will feature music aplenty, Tankersley said, with DJ Jammin Joe working the run/walk and County Line Community Band playing live during lunch, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Kona Ice Truck will also be on hand from 12 to 2 p.m., offering shaved-ice treats.

What is a Color Fun Run?

The run itself, Tankersley stressed, will be quite the treat for participants—especially for those unfamiliar with a color fun run. Participants will pass a number of “color stations” during the event, where their t-shirts will be sprinkled with “fun-run dust.” The dust comes in various colors, providing participants with brightly colored, “tie-dyed” mementos at finish.

This GVEC Community Event Includes a Raffle, Too

The day’s activities will also feature a raffle. Participants don’t need to be present to win. Tickets are $5 each or 6 for $25 and are available at any GVEC office beginning Aug. 1.

GVEC Gives Back Sponsorships Available

Local organizations interested in sponsoring GVEC Gives Back can purchase one of four “color stations” along the event course to sprinkle fun dust on participants as they pass. Sponsors can also purchase one of two “water stations” along the course. General donations up to $5,000 are also appreciated.
