Wildfire Safety FAQs

A PSPS is a proactive measure where GVEC may de-energize specific power lines during extreme weather conditions (high winds, low humidity) to prevent the risk of our equipment causing a wildfire ignition.

Under Senate Bill 1789, we maintain a strict 20-foot right-of-way “Flash Zone” around our primary lines. This involves regular cycle-trimming and removal of hazardous trees that could fall into lines during high winds.

Creating “Defensible Space” is key. Clear dry brush, keep grass short near structures, and ensure your home address is clearly visible for first responders.
