Thanks to the continued generosity of GVEC members, 13 nonprofit organizations have been awarded over $208,000 through the Cooperative’s Power Up community grant program. Funded by members who voluntarily round up their electric bills, Power Up supports impactful projects that enhance quality of life across the GVEC service area.
Since launching in 2012, the program has awarded over $4.6 million in funding for 283 local projects benefiting the members and communities GVEC serves—from emergency response and healthcare equipment to revitalization of parks, historical landmarks, and shared community spaces.
In the most recent round of distributions, Power Up grants awarded during this cycle include: $20,000 to City of Shiner Police Department, Shiner, for an unmanned aircraft system (drone); $20,000 to GuadaComa Emergency Response Group, Schertz, purchase of a mobile high-pressure breathing air compressor; $3,699.99 to Lockhart Cemetery Association, Cuero, for cemetery upkeep equipment; $20,000 to McQueeney VFD, McQueeney, for fleet modernization equipment; $20,000 to Moulton ISD, Moulton, for Chromebooks for students; $15,332.20 to Nixon American Legion Post #547, Nixon, for spray foam insulation in the American Legion Hall; $9,932.36 to Schertz Cibolo Selma Lions Foundation, Schertz, for SPOT Vision Screening and hearing audiometer equipment; $11,410 to SCUC ISD Education Foundation, Schertz, for stadium access control gate; $19,935.36 to Seguin ISD, Seguin, for a construction trades education mobile classroom; $18,609 to Seguin-Guadalupe County Senior Citizens Center, Seguin, for a digital sign; $9,200 to St. James Catholic School, Seguin, for a learning pavilion and garden; and $20,000 to Shiner Lions Club, Shiner, for public tennis court refurbishing, and $20,000 to Yoakum VFD, Yoakum, for firefighting, wildland, and auto extraction protective equipment.
